Independent overland travel through Africa in a Unimog called Moglet

Well as expected we ended up staying an extra night at the last site, and are now parked up just outside of Edinburgh. We came through Peebles on the way - Jason has distant family connections with it so wanted to have a little look. We only stayed long enough to have a chill out and a cup of tea, but it looked like a vibrant little town. Plus, if you follow the signs for coach parking, it has a free car park right on the river with no signs warning against overnight parking! So if you're in the area and need a short stop and cant find somewhere else, a free car park cant be a bad thing...

The site we're at now is a long way from free - if you're not a member of the Caravanning Club it'll set you back £21 a night, so we joined the Club the day before we got here, which brings it down by £7 a night... Its the first place we've stayed so far though that the showers work like 'proper' ones, where you dont need to keep pushing the button to get water coming out - such a luxury to have an apparently unlimited supply of hot water! The wind has been really picking up in the last 12hrs or so, and despite Moglet being parked up almost headfirst into the gusts, she's still rolling around like a boat from time to time. The temperature is suprisingly warm though, up to around 10degrees in the day and hardly falling at all overnight - a bit different to the freezing temperatures and snow thats falling on our families back in the south east UK at the moment!

We're taking a lazy day today, then planning to go off to the zoo in the next day or so (the biggest colony of penguins in captivity in the world, apparently! :-) Then more jabs at the travel clinic next week for both of us, then Pitlochry is our next target, via Stirling Castle, followed by maybe as much as a week at Aviemore in the Cairngorms - fingers crossed for some snow :-)
