So today's the day we left the Outer Hebrides, trucked back through Skye and then got back onto UK mainland. Our target for the day was to get as close to Fort William as possible, aiming to be at the Hadrians Wall campsite we'd stayed in a month or two ago over the weekend so we could park up for a couple of days and sleep/catch up on washing.
We arrived in plenty of time for the Leverburgh ferry, which took us over to Berneray in a calm and relaxing hours trip. It's only a small ferry so no canteen (and no toast!) and once we arrived we spent about 10minutes driving along every road on the island of Berneray - it really is that small!
Another island seen, we headed down to Lochmaddy to pick up our next ferry, due in a couple of hours time, to take us back to Uig on northern Skye. On the way we finally spotted our first 'wild' otter - while we were parked up in the ferry car park of all places! Good to see though, it was one of the things on our Wish List that we didn't think we were going to be able to get ticked off before we left.
Back on Skye, we pretty much drove non-stop down the island, apart from one quick stop to take a look at a waterfall we'd passed on the way up the island a week or so ago. The weather was now much clearer so Jason trotted off with the camera to have a little explore...
Waterfall snapped, we were back on the road and heading for as far south as we could get before dark. We ended up stopping next to Loch Garry (great name - although not as good as Loch Lochy about 5 miles before it!), about 25miles short of Fort William. We pulled up in a layby and tucked ourselves into the back as soon as possible. Both of us were pretty tired and tomorrow was likley to be another long driving day. We also encountered our first bugs on the trip so far when parked up here - two mossie looking things sneaked into the cab while we were sitting there getting ready to turn in for the night. Cheeky buggers!
We noticed in the morning that the mattress was feeling a little damp along the bottom edge again, so we decided to pull it down and stand it up in the gangway and leave Moglets heater running all day while we were driving, to see if we could dry it out a bit. So with the house bit of Moglet in complete disarray we climbed into the cab to make our run down to Haltwhistle (and the chinese takeaway!) as quickly as possible.
